Mathias is known for his super colourful, childlike works. Big, fun, playful, expressive. His works are surprisingly harmonious, fractal even.
He had his first solo exhibition outside of Norway at Spazio Sasetti in the 600 year old Palazzo Strozzini in the historic center of Florence, Italy, called "Catch me if you can't".
Mathias and his girlfriend, mother and two friends all stayed at The Magazine Club's main hub - the home where the weekly sessions we being hosted.
Everyone joined in to make episode 63: The Ch€€se. This was a point when TMC was only using their own sourced pigments. Mathias seemed to have no problem going from his usually hyper-colourful pastels, to using the club's earth tones that they sourced on a sailing trip around Ibiza. His mother was interviewed with the typewriter, and the readers got insights into how a mother can nurture a child's most wild and "unrealistic" ambitions.
During a soft opening of Mathias' show, 63 + 1 prints of this episode 63 were printed and stuck together at the back. Mathias then created a gigantic live piece on top of this "canvas of magazines". For this, he went back to his own signature tool - the colourful oil pastels, or crayons, as some might call it.
Question for Mathias' mother, Merethe from the interview with her in episode 63:
"How did you navigate supporting your son, whilst also trying to stay realistic about what's possible?"
Merethe: "I always believe in him, and I believe that what he learn at home, will bring him to the right place."

Supporting Mathias "MASARATI" in Florece
Mister Masarati joined on Episode 63, and hand painted over 63 copies of it live at the beginning of his first international solo show in Florence.
The result is that 64 of the 100 copies of this episode have a small original Masarati on top. Due to the aforementioned fractal nature of Mathias' works, each little canvas is truly a representative of the whole.
The magazines were put in the custom made sun refracting prism frames that TMC had made to elevate each magazine to the status of the art work it is.
Lisa from TMC got on top of a ladder and shot 64 polaroids from above to go with the official certificate that each of the 64 originals carry. So when purchasing this Masarati prism box, you receive the maagzine with original art work on the cover, and a certificate with a polaroid with your number circled - so you may see the entire puzzle of which your edition makes a piece of.
WOW! Contact office@themagazineclub.com for remaining availability of these legendary boxes.
THANK YOU so much Mathias for being such a childlike delight to work with, and for bringing us your sweet and cool posse who gave their all in order to make this happen - Maiken, Roar and Mathias' mother from Mathias' side, and Marie and Dominic from the magazine club, and Luca from Spazio Sassetti.
